交大老龄研究院是顺应老龄社会发展趋势而建立的新型研究与教育组织，研究院性质为学校二级实体教育科研机构，同时按照去行政化的改革要求，创新组织模式，采用虚实结合方式运行。它将在新体制下融汇国际师资，借鉴国外研究与教学模式，实现“放眼国际、立足本土”的办学特色，努力成为西南交通大学汇聚交叉领域高端学术人才与培养高端创新人才的高地。  
 
Southwest Jiaotong University-National Interdisciplinary Institute on Aging (hereinafter referred to as NIIA) is China’s first national research base on aging. It was co-founded by the National Working Commission on Aging of the State Council of China and SWJTU on May 15th 2015. Being a secondary school of SWJTU, NIIA is taking full advantage of SWJTU’s interdisciplinary studies of aging populations to build a world-class faculty, to cultivate top students with international views, and to explore a test field for discipline reform and development. Upholding the principle of being competitive, inter-disciplinary and international, NIIA aims to become the leading institute in China and to make its work recognized globally
